Sunwheel Grove Philosophy
Here within the sacred circle of the Sunwheel Grove, we believe that life and the energy of all existence is brought into being with the foundation of, The Sun, The Moon and The Earth and the relationship between them and one another.
We respect and honour the power of the elements with their natural will and influence, sculpting and moulding our daily lives, as we travel our chosen pathway along the cycle of evolution and the spiral of infinity.
We also respect and honour our home, planet Earth and all of nature’s creation. We are all children of Mother Earth, the flora and fauna, the breath of life, hope and peace. The harmony and balance of all living things.
We believe that it is wrong to abuse and exploit the Earth in the name of greed and ignorance. We should work in harmony with it’s cycle of life and one another, not smother and suffocate our fellow spirits.
We believe that our Ancestors should be honoured for their wisdom and understanding of life and its lessons. A connection with the past, present and future and the threads of our lives.
And we believe in the strength and energy of the love, peace and harmony in the spirit of all things.

The Sunwheel Grove started life as an annual pilgrimage to Wayland Smithy and Avebury for the Summer Solstice. Starting from our local circle, the Rollright Stones, we cycled as the crow flies, through Carterton and Farringdon, on to the Ridgeway at Uffington and followed it to Avebury. We met up with friends and other Pagan groups over the years such as Wiccans, Odinists and Druids to name a few.
In 2002 we began our spiritual transformation and the Sunwheel Grove came into being. After years looking for a suitable site to put our Grove, we finally found the perfect place and in the spring of 2008, construction of the Grove began.
We believe that the Sun, Moon and Earth are the main influences in our lives, without which we would not be here. The Sun that gives us light and warmth. The Earth which is the perfect distance from the Sun for life to evolve. The moon with its gravitational pull which affects the tides and animal behaviour.
The Sunwheel Calendar was created in the mid 1990’s. It uses the summer and winter Solstices as a pivotal point to divide the year into eight equal parts. The Summer Solstice is at midday on the 21st of June, the Winter Solstice is at midnight between the 20th and 21st of December which in turn makes the equinoxes between days. The remaining four celebrations of Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh and Samhain have whole days dedicated to them.
