A Melody for All to Sing!
A Melody for All to Sing!
With the ticking of timing – we march on until noon – and Paviland appears at my door,
A well-worn detour for which I am eternally grateful – and will be forever more!
Taking in the vistas – the evolving guide of repeated journeys – forming a surrounding view,
Familiar memories behind every twist and turn – with touching sunlight peeping through!
On arrival with a call – the Gatekeeper makes an entrance – with the swinging open of the door,
With a sense of pride – we formally step inside – a welcome to the seasonal draw!
Leading the meander lines along the entrance pathway – I amble forth until I come to a rest,
Breathing in the air with its fine taste of atmosphere – an energy that’s simply the best!
A carpet of collage – the random scattering of leaves – in infinite yellows and browns,
Tucking in the undergrowth – with a seasonal blanket of nature – relaxing many frowns!
Sharing in many sensual sight-lines – forging visual windows – maturing with age,
The midday shimmer of the autumn lighting – the presenting of spotlights upon the stage!
Catching up on memories – echoes of reminiscence – Samhain’s preparation in full swing,
Remembering past connections –family – friends and our Ancestors – and the warmth they bring!
There’s a collective effort – dressing the gateway – with many donated sprigs of Yew,
Representing the connection – signifying the veil between worlds – for the many and the few!
The lanterns are placed awaiting their flames – and the wind chimes find their home,
The central table – is as readied as is able – with the circle left with room to roam!
I pause briefly for lunch – with a peanut butter crunch – watching the wind in the trees,
The clouds they break – for the sun’s rays’ sake – but its brief and no-one else sees!
The grey clouds roll – with Mother Nature in control – setting the scene for the rest of the day,
Like the Gate – it is time to dress for the occasion – picking out tradition to wear on the way!
We see the lanterns flicker – and the incense curls in smoulder – it’s time for the gong to ring,
The procession confidently putting its best foot forward – with a melody for all to sing!
The Sun Lantern escorted sunwise around the circle – betwixt the Silver Birch and the Stones,
Taking up our places and swimming in memories – feeling it down to the dust of my bones!
Raising a toast and a smile – we honour the Ancestors – sharing our thoughts and our words,
We share in the spirit and energy – of all living life – and serenaded by the song of the birds!
Flickering fires casting their smoke and flames – catching a couple of showers quick and fine,
Offerings are offered and blessings are counted – a multitude of connections shared through time!
Inner and outer voices influencing the participants – both as a collective as well as the self,
We come to the Closing – with gifts of sprigs of Yew – sentiment of Samhain good for your health!
Dusk comes to call with its perfect timing – and it’s the moment for one and all to leave,
Like some pre-arranged agreement – it begins to rain – with our pathways set to weave!
The lanterns glisten with a warming glow – highlighting the features in the round,
Departing the Grove via the entrance gate – from our small patch of sacred ground!
