Part 25: Summer Solstice 2021
Undeterred by the grey clouded day we made our way through grazing sheep down to an ancestral circle of stones, just across the river from where we held our Spring Equinox ceremony within an ancient isolated and snowdrop covered Pagan site. The river itself having taken a new course over time, leaving part of the stone circle now reaching up through the water’s surface.
A ceremonial fire was lit beneath an impressive standing stone’s overhang whilst adapting a central table close by on another, guarded by Hawthorn trees bedecked with wool from scratching sheep, provided a most apt setting for the ceremony where we felt a warm connection to both the place and the ancestors who previously celebrated there.
After the ceremony and as the day progressed, we moved downstream, around the river bend, to discover a tranquil riverside ‘beach’ on which to have a picnic and reflect.
