Lacy Frost
Frosty breath of gods
paints tops of hedges white
sugars trees on hills
deeper white in ditch and rills,
Intricate as lace
grassy plants made plump
from stalks of summers gone,
Replace the gloomy place
of deep mid-minter’s grey
with bewitching beauty
for a day.
oOo
Snowy Spring
Pink against white
blossoms bend – scatter like snow
in the wind – cold and rain
dampening their light tracery
it could be winter,
But softly they herald days
that will come
as they hum the tune of spring
sing to it – with showers of delicate downpours,
Petals coming and going
like an emptying mind
In tranquil space.
oOo
Stunted Croak
The slow swoop of fragile wings
is not a song of summer
but a moan of sorrow
an owl’s call – a stunted croak
from leaves that coldly quiver,
Ruts of solid steel – pits of ice
the pallid light of dawn
no relief to the huddled sheep
in grasses frostily deep.
