A Squirrel’s Welcome!
A Squirrel’s Welcome!
Standing to attention there’s a Squirrel’s welcome,
Casually feasting on an Almond – admiring the view!
Caught in the act – it runs for the cover of the Dogwood,
While the morning sun shines in a sky of vibrant blue!
The winds are keen – mischievous with their energy,
Running their fingers through the tops of the trees!
Pigeons – Doves and Crows – seeking their destinations,
Above the fruit laden Orchard – with its Wasps and Bees!
There’s a faint disturbance of the earth – beside the Roundhouse entrance,
A mouse runs frantic – diving into the tufts around the pond!
Swelling in the moment the reds and Russets – swirling in a pallet of greens,
Apple orbs upon the Trees of welcome and the Orchard’s flow beyond!
Capturing plenty of early images – to help with the memory,
A taste of seasonal harmony – ripening clusters – out on display,
A secret wander along private pathways – leading on to far-away islands,
The songbirds whistle – amidst hedge and Thistle – leaves hinting autumn’s way!
There’s a catch-up with the rain clouds – delivering a shower,
There’s a subtle retreat to put a roof overhead!
We listen to the raindrops until their dancing is history,
Sailing the tides – on a wind of rides – as the sun returns instead!
The tables find their footing for the down pour cleansing,
Recounting the retirements as we reach into the past!
The south-westerly’s take of a western turn – in a moving constant,
Fading the greys – in its natural ways – remaining dry and set to last!
Gatherers gather a gathering – foretold by the ring of bells,
Opening the gateway as the invited arrive,
Recounting the miles – with their warming smiles,
To a place of connection – where you feel so alive!
With an eye on the elements we wind the day forward,
Expecting the rain fall that never quite came!
We held forth our Apples and we shared our toasting’s,
With the only sprinkling offered – was done in its own name!
In a moment of thought – the sun ignited in a burst of light energy,
Earthing a root system – with a glow in the dark!
The Silver Birch spirals twisting around the surround,
While flickering lanterns – enclose the circle of stones – standing at their mark!
We come to a close with a myriad of memories,
Where Dragonflies explore the open spaces – while sharing time to breath,
The Butterflies flutter lullabies – in the corners of your eye,
Small Meadow Browns and highlight Whites – living focal points they weave!
So soon we echo the flutter-by’s and leave the field of play in waves,
As we return to the ticking of commitment’s clock!
As time goes by into the early of evening – the dusts with the settle of time,
The peace descends with the setting sun – leaving of life to run amok!
