Dawn of Mystery!
Dawn of Mystery!
The mystery of magic
flows at the edge of dawn
where the moon breaks
into rivulets of running ribbon,
Sultry and still – the lake pauses – reflects shadows
an Owl’s hoot floods among the trees
the night is loosening – fading to an emerging dawn
spilling over the horizon,
Into the smoky black the water falls
In white uneven patches
the ducks paddle quietly among the lily pads
drift with feathery mists – into purple patches,
Steamy gleams – wake the stream
gurgle to the fish in dream
they flow into its wake and wait
nature has a bite,
Awake to the need to eat
the spiders mass on tussock grass,
the lake fish skite from pike,
Owls’ pounce on mice,
Killing fields – among the Woodland
where choiceless creatures are prey or preyed on
each to their nature under a glass sky
as a cricket hops so a bird flies,
Some on four legs – some on two
programmed bodies and abilities on a finite planet
humans too hurtling through space
most contracting – not seeing the signs to expand
to the profundities of perfection.
